Lesson 11: Setting Up Medicare Rebates and Bulk Billing for a New Psychologist

When a new team member arrives its an exciting time. Doing the correct paperwork and calls before they come allows for a smooth experience for clients to be able to get their Rebates.

Medicare allows all Australians to have up to 10 Psychology Sessions per calendar year with a Rebate. For clients who don’t pay their invoice Psychology Outcomes recoups the cost by setting the session as a “bulk bill session” so Bulk Billing needs to also be set up with Medicare for each Psychologist. For Halaxy to be able to process a rebate it needs to be able to “speak” to Medicare and let them know the clients details, the clients Medicare number as well as the Psychologists location details. A step-by-step process is provided below which allows for the paperwork and calls to occur prior to a Psychologist commencing to Medicare Rebates are “turned on”. Where possible it is best to try and organise this 6 weeks prior to a Psychologist starting (or at least get the ball rolling 6 weeks in advance)
